This week had one incident that stood out in particular. I took a call last week that resulted in a client claiming that we were a Ponzi scheme. The law firm recently changed names from "Schneider Kerr & Robichaux Law Offices" to "Kerr Robichaux & Carroll Law Offices." Although this slight change doesn't seem like much, the client disagreed. It wasn't really entertaining beyond that but I just thought it was funny that the client somehow thought the exact same number he had been calling since he started his case with a slightly different name attached was reason enough that we were a Ponzi scheme.
So far, I have been able to learn a few things through learning at the law firm. Firstly, like I said last week, my people skills are developing. Secondly, I have been slowly picking up pieces of the process as I go along. Although it isn't likely that I will end up in this field, it has been very interesting. I won't bore you with the exact details but something that is slowly becoming less and less challenging is directing calls from the Social Security Administration(SSA). At the law firm there are a bunch of different sections that deal with different groups within the SSA and at first, it is almost impossible to tell the difference, but by looking carefully at the case file you can pick up small details and distribute the call properly.
The one interesting thing about the office that I forgot to mention was "the vault." Mysterious right? Well since the office was an old "firehouse,"(technically true but it's just like every other building) they had a vault to store things. Like a legitimate, locking vault with a cool boat-like steering wheel locking mechanism. We keep all of the office supplies in the vault and there is a picture below showing the inside. The inside isn't as cool but I couldn't get a good picture without interrupting other people's work.
Unfortunately I am looking at the comments on my last post as I'm writing this so I wasn't able to get pictures of the walk to the post office but I will do my best to remember and get pictures for the final post. I'll get the shred room, the walk to the post office, maybe, just maybe I can use my I.D to slip into the black mold infested room under the sidewalk but I doubt it.
There is something so satisfying about boxes of new office supplies, isn't there?
ReplyDeleteIt is interesting how something that seems so hard to differentiate at first, like I imagine the SSA categories must be, can become clearer with time and steady practice. It's a good reminder to come back to this kind of experience when we're faced with a task that seems overwhelming/impossible (and possibly a little boring) later on.
